Thomson out for months
Knee ligament damage fear as Thomson receives scan this morning...

Whatever Hibs have done to deserve the run of injuries that have plagued them this season, they are quite obviously still doing it after another two names were added to the list to replace Grant Brebner and Stephen Dobbie, the latter making his first star for the club since picking up the injury that had ruled him out for the last couple of months.  With Roland Edge limping out of proceedings at half time and Kevin Thomson being stretchered off during the first half, you could feel a degree of sympathy towards anyone working with the playing staff as they have no idea who will be fit from one week to the next!

While Jim Clark was disappo9inted to lose both players, it's the young midfielder's injury that gave him more cause for immediate concern with initial talk of it being knee ligament damage.  "I'm more disappointed with the injury to Kevin Thomson to be honest, it looks as though it's quite a serious one."  With some players talking last night about the injury being 'the worst he could get', the obvious concern is that it may be Thomson's cruciate ligament that has been damaged in the tackle although the temporary Hibs co-manager didn't believe there was any malice in the challenge with perhaps the referee's decision to play on seeing the injury happen in the first place.

Thomson is carried from the field last night  (sns)

"When he played on, he actually went down, and when he went down, he'd actually done it, it wasn't the first foul. I think if he gave the initial foul he wouldn't have got it, but that happens. I was really disappointed because we'd started really well, and that injury's obviously set us back."  Hibs had certainly started the brighter of the sides as they looked to carry on from where they left off on Saturday against Dundee although Kenny Arthur had not really been troubled in the Thistle goal by the time the 19 year old was taken from the field.  Thomson's injury will certainly keep him out of the Intertoto Cup games in the summer with him lucky to be playing again before October.  "If it's as serious as we think then it's definitely months. We'll wait and see. I wouldn't like to say too much just now. It's his knee. He'll get a scan tomorrow so I'll wait and see the result of that."

While Hibs had started the brighter of the sides, the changes that were forced on the Hibs midfield seemed to give the visitors some impetus and allowed them to come into the game more.  However, it was Hibs that took the lead through centre half Colin Murdock after a precision cross from Tam McManus although Clark believes that his side went in front against the run of play.  "I thought Thistle were doing better when we scored to be honest. I thought after Kevin went off, Thistle came into it, were dominating the game and then we scored"  Despite taking the lead, Hibs didn't really build on that with Clark musing that the goal had an opposite effect on the side.  "That set us back, they equalised obviously then I was quite happy to get in one each at half time."

Of course, it wasn't just Thomson who suffered last night with former Gillingham defender Roland Edge also having to be replaced following his picking up an injury.  "Roland Edge had to come off injured at half time. It's his ankle again, so he'll not play for the rest of the season. Lucky Hibs eh?"  Lucky certainly isn't a word that could be used to describe Hibs injury list this season and the hope around the club is that the summer will see sufficient rest being taken by the players to charge them up ahead of the exploits of next season.

Malcolm Colquhoun will be the guest on RadioHibs flagship Saturday Live show this Saturday starting at 9.30am.  The overworked Hibs physio will be talking about the players who've passed through his treatment room over the past 9 months as well as those currently there with some stories from previous seasons also likely to be heard.
