One Step At A Time!
Time To Give Donald His Shot Beside The Park!
MUCH HAS BEEN MADE of who should be the next manager of Hibernian Football Club with one clear favourite in the Hibs fans eyes - Franck Sauzee
While all the talk will be of who will be on the shortlist, who should be on it and, more importantly for some fans, who most certainly should NOT be on it, there's one man who will quietly get on with the job that currently rests in his hands. Donald Park.
Right at the outset, Donald has stated his intentions with regard to the position vacated by Alex McLeish - he has none! What will this do for him? Personally, I believe that this will aid him in his quest to turn around the fortunes of the club in the short term as there will be far lesser pressure on him to 'impress' those upstairs in the Directors Box, a group of gentlemen who will ultimately make the decision which thousands of Hibs fans will either love them for, or loathe them for.

Donald Park - Interim Saviour?
The positive side of this for all concerned is that there won't be a repeat of the Jocky Scott/Jim Duffy incident. The board had NO intention at that time of appointing Jocky on a permanent basis and to string him along on an interim basis and tell him that he will be judged n his performances in that time was, in my view, a disgrace to the club.
But what of the players? Is this scenario, a part-time boss, good for them at a time when Hibs' fortunes are low? In a word - yes. These guys are paid to ply a trade that they've been working at for years. The appointment of an internal interim manager, and especially one that has been around the Club for as long as Park has should make no difference to these guys. In fact, I believe that they will raise their game, as they did at Ibrox, for him.

A happy Franck Sauzee - but will he still be after the board weigh up their options?
Hibs have just come away from Glasgow with a magnificent result under their belts. In two weeks, we have to go through it all again. Whilst there's no doubt in my mind that the players will be up for it, It's Donald Park's job to get them to forget about it and get them prepared for the two games in between, Dunfermline and St Johnstone. These will not be easy games and, dare I say it, may be even trickier than either of the games against Rangers.
Whether their spirits can be lifted to the same level as they were at Ibrox remains to be seen but only one man will be able to work on it - Donald Park. |
